Scheduling a Service

To schedule service, simply call the Public Works/Utility District at the number listed and either talk to an employee or leave a detailed message. Your message should include: name, address, service needed, any special instructions, and a phone number in case we need to make contact with you.

Emergency/Weekend Service

In the event of a septic emergency or a need for weekend/after hours service, call the number listed and leave a detailed message. The answering machine is checked throughout the day during normal business hours and a minimum of once per day on weekends. Please note: not all septic emergencies require pumping, therefore, calling one of our local plumbers should be the first step.

Septic Inspections

Every homeowner will receive a Maintenance Pumping Report from the Door County Sanitarian every three years. These reports and inspections need to be completed, and by a licensed evaluator, or the homeowner is subject to a fine from Door County. To be added to our list of inspections, please turn the form into the Town Office and we will grab them from there.  We do not currently take appointments for these inspections but will try to accommodate everyone's needs.

Filter Cleaning

Another service offered is annual or bi-annual cleaning of the effluent filter on septic systems. Not all systems have a filter installed on them but they will if your system was installed after they were made mandatory in 2000. Cleaning of septic filters is crucial to ensuring a septic system is working properly.

Portable Restroom Rentals

Washington Island Sanitation is the only business on Washington Island that has portable restrooms and handwashing stations available to rent. We offer a few rental options for these units, as seen on the fee schedule.
