A driveway permit from the Town of Washington is required before installing a driveway and if:

  • Building a new home or garage (permit is required before any construction begins)

  • First driveway access to property

  • Moving driveway from one location to another

  • Adding a driveway

Driveway Requirements

  •  Must be 12’ wide with 16’ clearance for emergency vehicles

  •  Must be set back 5’ from property side lot line (unless a shared drive)

  •  Must have provision for emergency equipment to turn around if over 50’ long

  •  CAUTION – Be sure driveway location does not conflict with your wastewater disposal requirements

Steps

  1. Submit form to Town Office

  2. Pay $40.00 fee

  3. Town checks to see if culvert is needed (to be installed and paid for by applicant)

  4. Town issues permit after approval at a Town Board meeting (expires in 1 year if not constructed)
