The Tuesday, November 10, 2009 meeting of the Washington Island Historical Archives Committee was called to order by Chairman Charlotte Hansen at 3:30 PM in the Rutledge Room of the Community Center.

Present were Kirby Foss, Eric Greenfeldt, Charlotte Hansen, Richard Purinton, David Raup and Jeannie Young.  Absent were Arbutus Greenfeldt and Merrill Lundberg.  Also present was Archivist, Barbara Ellefson.

Arbutus’ Slides and Script

A Memorandum of Understanding was presented by Eric Greenfeldt (attached).  There was a discussion to make sure Phil Ellerbrock understands and supports our recommendations.  He is to support Arbutus’ program as she presented it, integrating the sound and the pictures.  He is to make sure the DVD is completed and would work with standard playback equipment.  The Archives will be assigned the copyright.

We are to pay Phil Ellerbrock $1,500 at the completion of the DVD.  That is to be the complete payment for the project done by him.  We still have to look into the packaging after it is produced.  We will check with the Boyers and Amy Jorgenson about this.

Arbutus has volunteered to give the same program she gave before to help with the expenses when it is suitable for her next year.  Dick Purinton suggested the DVDs be available for sale at the program.

We are to send a letter to the Town informing them of our expenses (because they will be over $500).  David Raup made the motion and Jeannie Young seconded.  This is to be put on the Town Board meeting agenda for February.  Charlotte is to write the letter.

David is to talk to Phil about the title of the DVD which will be “Things that Were”.

 Future Programs

There was a discussion regarding where we will have the program now that the TPAC is not available.  The two suggestions were the gym and the Lutheran Church.  This is to be determined later.

Our summer programs suggested were: 1.  Arbutus showing her slides in June; 2.  Michelle Birnbaum on the results of the Richter Dig done in 1968-1973 in July; 3.  Trygvie Jensen’s second book Through Waves and Gales Come Fishermen’s Tales in the fall; and 4.  David Foss regarding sailing, still undetermined.  Evenings during the week are preferable for all programs.  We would not charge for any of them but ask for donations only.

Meeting adjourned 4:25 PM with motion made by Jeannie Young and seconded by Dick Purinton.

E-mails by Eric Greenfeldt and Phil Ellerbrock attached.

Respectfully submitted,
