The Wednesday, June 17, 2009 Special Meeting of the Washington Island Historical Archives Committee was called to order by Chairman Charlotte Hansen at 3:30 PM in the Rutledge Room of the Community Center.
Present were: Kirby Foss, Arbutus Greenfeldt, Eric Greenfeldt, Charlotte Hansen, Merrill Lundberg, Richard Purinton, and Dave Raup. Also present was Archivist Barbara Ellefson. Absent was Jeanette Young.
Archivist Position
Eric said he would like to persuade Barbara to remain in her position as the Archivist for a time, and the other members of the Committee expressed their support as well. Barbara said she is willing to continue for a while. The members of the Committee commended her on the success of the Archives project over a long period of years, and Barbara credited the past and present members of the Committee as well as the volunteers.
In discussion it was acknowledged that it could be helpful to have one or two additional volunteers, and we have a need for some additional vault space. Members of the Committee looked at a new drawing of the facility proposed by Scott Sonoc, but it was recognized that any decisions about this proposal must be coordinated with the Town Board.
Program Committee
Eric reported that Martena Koken will be here in late July and early August and would be pleased to present a program about Dr. Farmer. Pastor Maxwell has confirmed that we may use the facility at Trinity. Following discussion it was concluded that we will seek to have the program on Wednesday, July 29, at 7:00 PM. We will provide cookies, coffee and lemonade.
Donations Received
Barbara confirmed that we have received some 36 donations of $75 or more and we have given the 2007 Heritage Stroll DVD to these donors. We have sold some additional copies at $25.
October Meeting
It was agreed that the next regular meeting of the Committee will be scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 3:30 PM in the Rutledge Room.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Merrill C. Lundberg, Secretary
